The game streaming service would be a great fit for current consoles

OnLive has really broadened its scope in recent months, expanding into the UK and releasing its client for mobile devices like tablets, but the company that administers the game streaming service would still love it if it could bring OnLive to consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

While lots of rumors already speculate that the next home consoles are coming in the near future, Sony and Microsoft are still bent on making the most out of their current devices.

One way the companies could do this is by using OnLive, at least according to Bruce Grove, the UK boss of the game streaming service, largely because the company already has an infrastructure and the technology to support such a system.

"If they decide they want to use our technology, that would be a great discussion because we've already got the infrastructure," Grove told Eurogamer. "We know how to do it. There are a lot of things we could bring to the table and they could bring to the table. It would certainly be a discussion we would love to have. It would be very interesting.”

Sooner or later, current consoles need to expand upon their role, much like Microsoft is doing right now with the Xbox 360, by partnering up with TV content providers from all over the world, so Grove says that a streaming service would be a great new feature.

"For us, it broadens our market. Look at in the same way the Xbox is becoming a media hub. It's becoming more than just a game system. It's just announced with the BBC. In the US it's announced with U-verse for AT&T. They're saying, how do we become more than just this? And this [OnLive] is a service that could quite easily work through their service and would work quite nicely, to be honest."

Grove also speculates that a game streaming service like OnLive would be great, in case Sony or Microsoft want to allow their next generation consoles to play older titles made for the PS3 or Xbox 360, but he does admit that the companies aren’t that receptive to such an idea.
