Mass Effect 3, the mix between action and role playing from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts, is launching today and one of the leading executives working on the series has said the entire team is amazed and exciting that fans are finally getting to play the game.

Speaking during the launch events for Mass Effect 3 on the United States West Coast Casey Hudson, the executive producer working on the game, stated, “It’s really exciting, pretty amazing. This is ultimately why we make a game like this. We wanted to recreate the magic of movies, you know, like Star Trek and the magic that they created and this kind of shows that this is happening.”

He was then asked to comment on the fact that publications like Entertainment Weekly said that the Mass Effect 3 launch was more than a video game event and crossed the cultural boundary and added, “You can never predict it will look like this, that it will be so fun and would connect with gamers like this.”

The executive producer declined to offer a clear answer when asked about the future of the series, claiming that at the moment the team is only trying to make sure that the launch for Mass Effect 3 goes smoothly and fans are satisfied with the experience they are getting.

Hudson also says that BioWare is ready to deliver more content for the game during 2012, including both single-player DLC and new modes and items for multiplayer.

The first piece of DLC for Mass Effect 3 has already been launched and introduces a new Prothean character and quests associated with him.

Mass Effect 3 is designed to close the saga of Commander Shepard and his fight against the Reapers and the game is now available in North America on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, with European gamers able to pick it up on Friday.
