The new device will be able to handle notifications and won’t run on Android

It’s no secret that HP is readying a smartwatch aimed for the stylish ones. It’s going to be luxurious and a famous designer will be involved in its development. But apparently HP isn't the only company getting fashion-related ideas while smartwatches are concerned.

Omate, the company that managed to raise a lot of money via Kickstarter to produce the TrueSmart watch, a super cheap Android smartphone competitor, is back in the news with a fresh product.

Backers of the original Omate project might not want to hear about this new endeavor after the woes they went through with the first model, but we’ll keep telling you the story nevertheless.

Like the HP wearable, the Omate X will target fashionistas and the company has just confirmed the wearable. The device has been described as “more than a smartwatch, the Omate X is a fashion statement.”

Basically, users should be able to strap the device to their wrists anywhere without being worried that the watch won’t match their fancy wardrobe. Whether you are going to a party or to a fancy wedding, the Omate X will be a perfect fit.

With this in mind, the watch will adopt a sleek metallic design and a removable (and we dare say swappable) 22mm strap made of real leather.

However, unlike the TrueSmart which ran on the Android platform allowing users to tap into apps and make phone calls, the Omate X will act as a smartphone companion like many intelligent time pieces today.

The watch will be capable of handling notifications coming from incoming calls, social media updates, messages, reminders and more.

As for the specifications, the Omate X will have a 1.54-inch touchscreen display with 240 x 240 pixel res and will draw life from a MediaTek Aster MT2502 SoC.

Needless to say, the Omate X will play nice with iOS and Android platform and will run the unknown Nucleus RTOS in order to tackle the notification support.

Pre-orders for the fashion accessory are expected to kick off starting September 1 and will last until September 30. Early bidders will be able to pick up theirs for $129 / €97. The first 1,000 people to pre-order the Omate X will receive a limited edition watch with “Early Bird / Limited Edition” engraved on it.

Hopefully, the Omate X won’t have the same faith of the TrueSmart watch which was heavily delayed and the company will be able to maintain the schedule.
