Will be absent from CES and will take its sweet time afterwards as well

Olympus is working on a waterproof camera with interchangeable lens, but it won't, unfortunately, manage to bring it out in time for CES 2012.

In fact, there is little chance that the product was ever meant to be showcased there.

After all, it will only be formally introduced in the second week of February, or so it is reported.

That's between 6 and 11, next month.

No name was given, nor the exact specifications beyond the two features mentioned above (interchangeable lens and waterproof design).

Keep in mind that 'waterproof' doesn't mean it's safe to throw this thing in the swimming pool or anything, but rather that Olympus made it able to withstand rainy weather and thick fog that would spell death for lesser camera.

Olympus' 12-50mm zoom may be the default kit lens, but that is just hopeful speculation right now.
