The compact camera market is set to receive an important number of new additions at CES 2011, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic, all preparing new models with advanced features for the fair, Olympus' XZ-1 even packing a 3-inch OLED display.
According to sources cited by
43rumors, the XZ-1 has the same 1:1.63 size 10.1-megapixel
image sensor as the Panasonic LX5, but Olympus has paired it with a 28-112mm f/1.8-2.5 lens.
Compared to the 24-90mm f/2.0-3.3 lens that comes with the LX5, the XZ-1 has a wider aperture as well as a broader zoom range, so it should be able to take high-quality pictures in low lit areas while also providing its users with higher optical magnification levels.
No picture of the back of the camera is available, but it seems like this will carry a 3-inch OLED LCD capable of displaying 610K pixels.
Meanwhile,
Sony Alpha Rumors says that Sony will bring a compact camera capable of 1080p 60fps recording in AVCHD format with fast contrast-based autofocus, the website stating this is as quick as the Panasonic GH2m so expect a 0.1 seconds focus time.
In addition, the Japanese company will also release new Bloggie cameras (that feature bigger screens) as well as new 2D and 3D videocams, some of the features that Sony introduced on the NEX and Alpha lines making their way out of the DSLR space (like sweep panorama, 3D and AVCHD recording).
Finally, Panasonic will debut at the show a new range of
compact cameras dubbed the S-series, including the DMC-S1 and DMC-S3.
No specs regarding these new models were available, but it seems like the Japanese company will also announce the Panasonic DMC-TS3, Panasonic DMC-FH2 and the Panasonic FH5 during the fair.
Unfortunately, pricing was not disclosed for any of the cameras presented in this article. (via
