Olympus adds 5-axis on-sensor image stabilization to the SH-1

At first glance, the Olympus SH-1 might seem like your normal compact point and shoot camera with long zoom, but neatly enough it comes bundling a feature photo enthusiasts are probably used to finding in the company’s interchangeable-lens products.

The SH-1 brings to the table 5-axis on-sensor image stabilization that will facilitate the snapping of sharp stills and steady video shooting and boasts a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 1/2.3-inch sensor and an equivalent 25-600mm f/3.0-6.3 lens.

So the camera can support super long 24x zoom capability combined that works in concert with the superior image stabilization system.

But that’s where the promising spec list ends. The camera’s sensor is quite small and the aperture range isn’t very impressive. So bottom line, those of you looking to get a high-caliber image quality won’t be impressed much by the SH-1.

Other functionalities include build-in Wi-Fi, the capacity to shoot full HD video at 60 fps as well as in lower resolution up to 240 fps. Like with any point-and-shoot, users will be able to add filters, automatically record time-lapses and more.

The SH-1 is expected to arrive on the market in May and customers will be able to pick one of these cameras for the pretty solid price of $400 / €291.
