Builds on the popularity of the OM-1 compact SLR released in the '70s

Back in the day when film was king and nobody had ever heard of digital, the compact Olympus OM-1 was one of the most popular SLRs around.

Fast forward to our times and most of us seem to have forgotten about this small, but powerful, camera, most outside Olympus that is, as the company wants to revive this brand with the upcoming OM-D.

Sadly, apart from its name little else has remained unchanged, rumors reporting that the OM-D will sport a 16MP Micro Four Thirds sensor with a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF).

A water sealed magnesium body and a brand new auto-focus (AF) system will round up the specs list of this digital camera according to Cnet, which expects it to be announced on February 8 (available in March) for $1,100, or about 859 EUR.

Keep in mind however that these are nothing but rumors, so don’t be disappointed if the OM-D won’t live up to your expectations.
