Just recently, green-heads working for the Chester Zoo in the UK welcomed two baby Asian short-clawed otters that were born here as a result of an on-going breeding program aimed at giving this endangered species a chance at survival.

As we all know quite well, otters are excellent swimmers and spend most of their time exploring the aquatic ecosystems in which they live.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that, when it came to finding suitable names for these youngsters, zoo employees looked towards Olympic swimmers for inspiration.

Thus, one of the baby otters was named after diver Tom Daley, whilst the other took its name from swimmer Rebecca Adlington.

Hannah Sievewright, who is in charge of keeping a close eye on these furry professional swimmers, explained that “These are one of the zoo's most adept species in the water so we thought it was very apt to name our new-born pups after two of our best athletes from the pool.”
