Tom Daley, the London 2012 Olympic bronze medalist and one of the most handsome men / athletes of the moment, has just come out as gay in a YouTube video. You will find it embedded below, at the end of the article.

Daley has been plagued by gay rumors before, most notably after one of the local newspapers reportedly twisted his words to make it sound as if he was admitting to it, but he’s always denied them, only to go back on his words later to say that, in the end, it didn’t matter what people thought his orientation was.

In the end, it did matter for Tom too, because he chose to go on the record with the truth. He explains the decision wasn’t one that he made easily, but it he made it with the hope that his fans and loyal supporters would understand that didn’t change anything about who he was.

“I told the rest of my family today and, well, let’s just say they had mixed opinions. Lots of them wanted me to keep it quiet,” Tom says.

“I’ve been dating girls and I’ve never really had a serious relationship to talk about and now I feel ready to talk about my relationships. Come spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great. And, well, that someone – is a guy,” he says.

He was just as surprised by how he clicked with his mystery guy but, somehow, he also knew that “it felt right.”

“My whole world just changed there and then. Of course I still fancy girls but, I mean, right now I’m dating a guy and I couldn’t be happier. It feels safe and it really does feel right,” he explains, adding that, no matter who he’s dating, whether it’s a boy or a girl, he’s “still Tom.”
