Well, after Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher, Formula One is yet to lose another rider for
the next season. Of course, he may have not been as successful as the people mentioned above, but Frenchman Olivier Panis did bring some color inside the Great Circle.

The Toyota rider announced his retirement from Formula One this morning, after struggling as a test-driver for the Japanese constructor during the past 2 years. Panis' last race inside the Great Circle happened in 2004, in Japan. Starting with the beginning of 2005, the 40-years old veteran has been trying to regain his racing position within the team, but failed to make it happen.

"I know that it is time for me to move on and fulfill my wish to race again. I am looking forward to new racing challenges outside Formula One but I will keep a close eye on Toyota's performances and hope they achieve all the success they deserve", admitted Panis in a press conference.

Instead, Toyota appointed another Frenchman as a test driver. His name is Franck Montagny and he has been driving for Super Aguri Honda the current season. And, since Ricardo Zonta will be heading to Renault next year, Toyota is very likely to pick the 2nd test driver out of their youth program.

Olivier Panis' greatest moment inside Formula One happened in 1996, when the Frenchman managed to win the Monte Carlo GP. As most of the F1 specialists agree, winning the Monaco GP gives you the place you deserve inside the history books on racing.
