14 DAY TRIAL // Out of nowhere, today came the announcement that actress Olivia Wilde and her husband Tao Ruspoli, a genuine Italian prince slash artist and filmmaker, were getting a divorce. Speculation on the breakup is now running rampant.
Though the two did not say why they chose to end their marriage – they’ve always been a very private couple – sources close to them are already talking to the tabloids about what may have caused the split.
Olivia, it would seem, realized that being married was slowing her down in her ascension in Hollywood, unnamed insiders dish for Us Magazine. She wanted to have more fun.
In other words, now that her career is taking off, she doesn’t want to be tied down and would rather she enjoyed life to the fullest. So she decided she wanted out of the marriage, it wasn’t Tao’s call.
“They have been separated for a while. It was Olivia’s decision... for the typical Hollywood reasons,” says a spy for the aforementioned publication.
“Her career has exploded and she saw being married is not as much fun,” the insider further says.
The fact that she got married when she was very young – Olivia and Tao eloped when she was just 18 and they were married for 8 years – also contributed to her decision because she’s seeing this moment as hers and she must seize it.
“She is a hot property now... it was weighing her down being married,” says the source. After “House M.D.” and “TRON: Legacy,” Olivia has countless projects on her plate right now.
Tao, on the other hand, wanted them to keep trying to make the marriage work. He “is heartbroken and really wanted to stay together,” says the spy.
“Olivia got married really young. She’s done a lot of growing since then, just like anyone would... they’ve just grown in different directions,” another unnamed source explains for Us Magazine.
