Olivia Wilde’s next role may be that of Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider” reboot, says report

Olivia Wilde is set to make quite a reputation for herself as an action star: after “TRON: Legacy,” the “House M.D.” alum is reportedly in talks to take over from Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in the upcoming “Tomb Raider” installment.

Details on the flick are very sketchy – in fact, it’s not even sure if another installment will ever see the light of day.

Last time we heard, Megan Fox was believed to be the strongest candidate for the part; then, reports claimed socialite turned reality star Kim Kardashian was in the running for the same role.

A report on The Fan Carpet says that sources close to the production can vouch that Wilde is now being considered – and may actually even land the part given that she has already proved she can do physically demanding action movies.

“The star is being lined up as the next Lara Croft in the proposed Tomb Raider Reboot,” TFC writes.

Even if she’s somewhat slender than the original Lara (as played by Jolie), she’s still considered perfect because the upcoming installment would be a reboot: different in tone and approach, and, therefore, open to introducing a slightly different hero.

Not only that, but this next film will also aim at getting a larger portion of the female audience to see it – whereas the original mostly appealed to the men.

“This would be a far darker and more serious Tomb Raider movie, the idea is to get a top director and an intelligent script and make this an empowering character for women as well as a popular one with men,” says a source who professes to be well in the know.

“Olivia is just one of the names being suggested for the lead role. She would appear to be ideal,” the spy adds.

As of now, fans are divided about the possibility of having Olivia Wilde as Lara Croft in the upcoming “Tomb Raider” film.

Some say that the franchise should remain buried forever or, at least, not rebooted with her, whereas others can totally see this happening.
