Olivia Newton-John has battled cancer herself, but she is now getting ready to help her older sister Rona do the same. She’s been diagnosed with brain cancer, the star confirms in a statement to Entertainment Online.

The statement is meant to squash rumors about her decision to cancel her upcoming Las Vegas residency, which she announced earlier this year.

She says she needs time off to help her sister through this.

“As a cancer ‘thriver’ myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin,” she says.

“I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time,” Olivia adds.

The 64-year-old star was diagnosed with breast cancer about 20 years ago.
