14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has updated the Support document detailing the use of its Server Admin Tools version 10.5.7, revealing that the tools can also be used on Macs running the just-released Mac OS X 10.5.8 software update. Server Admin Tools 10.5.7 is required to administer Mac OS X Server version 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 remotely. The package containing the tools is freely available for download right here on Softpedia.
“Server Admin Tools 10.5.7 contain remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities that you can install on a computer other than your server,” Apple says on its web site, under the Support tab. “This version requires Mac OS X v10.5.7 or v10.5.8 and is required to administer Mac OS X Server version 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 remotely. The Server Admin Tools 10.5.7 are available as an automatic Software Update for Macs running Mac OS X 10.5.7 with version 10.5 or later of the Server Admin Tools already installed, and as a manual download from Apple Support Downloads,” the company explains.
The company behind the Mac operating system also makes an important note, saying, “If you have moved any of the Server Admin Tools out of their original locations (inside /Applications/Server/), the update may continue to appear in Software Update even after you have installed it.” If this happens, “return the Server Admin Tools to their original location before using Software Update, or remove any duplicate copies of the Server Admin Tools,” Apple advises Mac users. Alongside the improvements included with the 10.5.7 update, the latest Server Admin tools also include the changes to Server Admin, Server Monitor (Server Admin Tools 10.5.6 v1.1) and System Image Utility introduced with Server Admin Tools 10.5.6. Improvements carried out in Server Admin Tools 10.5.3 and Server Admin Tools 10.5.5 were included in the 10.5.6 release, in the same manner. Therefore, simply updating to Server Admin Tools 10.5.7 will apply the complete set of changes and improvements to the Server Admin Tools since the initial release of the software.
