The new Bookmarks Manager will be available as an extension instead, was never really that liked by users

The Google Chrome community scored a win last week, managing to force the dev team's hand and make them reintroduce the old Bookmarks Manager in Chrome.

If you remember, at one point, Google Chrome had a Bookmarks Manager with a simple design that showed link entries on their own line using a vertical list.

This changed with Chrome 42, which brought forward a redesigned Bookmarks Manager that wasn't received so well by the Chrome community.

The new Bookmarks Manager was not loved from the get-go

The new interface used a card layout, showing bookmarks as large square blocks in the middle of the screen. While it used a responsive layout that made it more mobile-friendly, this also meant fewer links were getting listed, and users had to scroll more to view their list.

Users additionally reported a laggy behavior, and the lack of any enhancements to the bookmark management operations themselves, which still remained as complicated and cumbersome as before.

The backlash overflowed immediately on the Google Chrome support forum, and after less than two months, the dev team changed their mind and announced they would be reverting back to the old Bookmarks Manager.

As of now, it has not been mentioned when this change will take place, but the first steps were taken by developers in agreeing to revert.

The new Bookmarks Manager will be available as an extension

If you liked the newly redesigned Bookmarks Manager, the dev team already put it on the Chrome Web Store as an extension, and you'll be able to add it to your future Chrome browsers after the old one is officially reinstated.

If you hate the new Bookmarks Manager so much that you want it removed immediately, you can follow the instructions put together by the guys at gHacks and disable it right now.

You can download Google Chrome from Softpedia, with the appropriate version for your operating system: Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
