Not long ago, as he was confirming that his current girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, was pregnant, Mel Gibson joked about the media being able from then on to call him OctoDad, after the model of Nadya Suleman, the OctoMom. Now that Oksana has given birth to the couple’s first child but Mel’s eight, many already feel entitled to call him that, as the New York Daily News says.

Mel and Oksana had been an item even before he announced plans to separate from his wife of many years. Shortly after the divorce announcement was made, speculation started circulating that the singer, whom Mel met when he signed her on to his record label, was expecting a child, a claim that was left unaddressed for quite a while, until the above-mentioned OctoDad interview.

“Move over Jon Gosselin – Mel Gibson is officially the new octodad. The actor’s fiancé, Oksana Grigorieva, gave birth to a baby girl, RadarOnline.com reports. Though this is the couple’s first child together, it is Gibson’s eighth and Grigorieva’s second. Grigorieva reportedly gave birth on Friday, a few weeks before her due date. The delivery is said to have went well, with mom and daughter already home.” the NY Daily News writes.

Despite the fact that Oksana insists marriage is not in the cards for her and Gibson right now, rumors in the tabloids have it that the only thing that’s stopping them from tying the knot is Grigorieva refusing to sign a prenuptial contract. Admittedly, Gibson has his attorneys draw a very generous prenup, but Oksana will only marry if none is in place – given that Mel already risks losing half of his impressive fortune to soon to be ex wife Robyn, it’s understandable that he doesn’t want to make the same mistake the second time in a row.
