14 DAY TRIAL // Robyn Gibson filed for divorce from her actor and director husband of almost 30 years in April. Initial speculation had it that she had grown tired of Mel’s womanizing ways and drunken tantrums. New rumors emerged towards the end of the month, saying the pregnancy of a secret girlfriend was the reason for divorce. Other reports are now stating that the same pregnancy is causing tension amidst Gibson’s children, as Showbiz Spy reports.
According to recently surfaced rumors, not only is Oksana Grigorieva, Mel’s secret girlfriend for the past months, truly pregnant, but the family has already been made aware of the fact. If true, this would come to confirm earlier speculation that a secret pregnancy, albeit unwanted and surprising, was the reason Robyn finally filed the divorce papers, although she had been living separately from her husband for almost three years when that happened.
“In late April, Mel gathered his children at the family home in Malibu and broke the news that Oksana is pregnant, and he expects them to accept the baby as a new sibling.” an (unnamed but allegedly reliable) insider says for the aforementioned e-zine.
Consequently, Gibson’s eldest boys, Edward and Christian, both aged 26, have already taken the necessary steps to ensure that a child out of wedlock does not threaten what they stand to make from their parents’ divorce. As noted on previous occasions, Gibson’s estate was estimated by Forbes at over $900 million dollars in 2006, and the lack of a prenuptial contract means that Robyn stands to walk away with half of that amount.
News of Oksana’s pregnancy has hit the former Gibson family pretty hard, the same report says. All of Mel’s children are angry at the way he handled this in the media, as also is Robyn, who believes she should have been treated with more respect following such a long marriage. “They are quite upset. Even though Mel assured them the pregnancy was unplanned, they’re furious with him and say they’re going to take steps to protect their inheritance, which they feel is in jeopardy.” the same source explains for the publication.
At this point in time, neither Mel nor Robyn has commented in any way on the divorce rumors emerged. As Robyn is said to be looking for a quiet and quick divorce, the actor is taking the necessary steps to introduce his new girlfriend to his A-list circle of friends, having already walked the red carpet with her at the “Wolverine” premiere a short while ago.
