Thieves blamed for oil pipeline explosion that occured in China this past November

Towards the end of November, the news broke that an oil pipeline had exploded in China's Shandong province, in the city of Qingdao, and that dozens had lost their life in the aftermath of this incident.

Recent information on the topic says that the explosion occurred due to the fact that oil had leaked from the pipeline into nearby urban storm drains.

According to Oil Price, these leakages occurred because, about twice per week, thieves in the region paid the pipeline a visit and siphoned oil from it.

What's interesting is that, despite these regular encounters with oil thieves that were anything but gentle with it, the pipeline still passed a safety check that was carried out just two months prior to the explosion.

As previously reported, the pipeline that exploded in the Chinese city of Qingdao is owned and operated by Sinopec, i.e. the country's largest oil refiner.
