Oh No, Samsung Blackjack Can Have Faulty Functionality

Samsung Blackjack was released more than a year ago and since then, it became a successful smartphone in the US and around the world. And it is no wonder, as it's a very nice mobile phone that packs evolved technology in a small-sized device. Still, some Samsung Blackjack i607 owners discovered that their handset is faulty. Don't worry, if you own a Blackjack, its battery won't explode,
as in the case of some Nokia phones, and you won't discover that the device is completely unusable, as some iPhones (very few, that's true) were reported to be.

Blackjack's problems are not that big, but some of the i607 models manufactured between November 2006 and February 2007 can have poor signal reception or experience unexpected dropped calls (which can be really frustrating if it happens several times). The problems seem to have something to do with the phone's antenna. Different users reported the above mentioned issues and some official notes from Samsung appeared recently on the Internet to clear out the problem. Only a few devices are indeed faulty, and the South Korean manufacturer made various design changes, fixing the issue, hence all the Blackjacks manufactured from March 2007 are guaranteed to function properly.

For those unlucky users that have problems with their Blackjack manufactured between November 2006 and February 2007, AT&T provides assistance and can offer a new phone if indeed the old one is faulty. Rumors say that it might not be a brand new phone, but a refurbished one, so if you indeed have poor signal or experience drop calls try to make sure you get a new device. And, of course, back-up all your content before changing it.

Hopefully, the new Blackjack II running on Windows Mobile 6 will not have these problems, or any other kind of problems.

3 of 4 blackjacks I got developed this problem. 2 of the 3 original phones and AT&T's crumby "refurb"(scratched up/beat up, with same problem as the new phone it replaced) replacement of one of them. The blackjack is a great PDA, but the single worst phone I've ever owned. To paraphrase AT&T's own ads, "No reception anywhere, ever." I will never buy Samsung again. And no more dealings with AT&T, who was intentionally deceptive about the problem. (unless you know already about the specific defect with this phone, customer service gives you the runaround about possible causes.)

I have similar repeated dropped calls. Very frustrating. I was not aware of the antenna issue. Up until now, I thought dropped calls were due to poor cell coverage. Smoke screens from ATT corporate and local stores are designed to minimize there is an issue. Which is deceitful. They may be bound to disclose issues freely until Samsung allows them to or gives them a green light. In any case, I have had overall positive experiences with ATT both local and corporate. I will approach them regarding the antenna issue.

Thanks!

I have one manufactured after that date and experienced this problem. Took the entire phone apart, detached and reattached the antenna, but no difference. I'm just glad I got the phone for free. ATT also did nothing for me when I was without service for like 6 months. When I had it with Cingular it never had A problem and I got 3G in my house, under A steel roof, not to mention 3-4 bars all the time on the Big Isle of Hawaii. Don't use their internet service either, it always tests at half speed or less.
