Oh, My God, Meet the Eee And MacBook Killer: the ECS G10IL

- It has been awarded the GSMA innovation prize

By: Bogdan Botezatu, Hardware Editor

A whole lot of Eee PC and MacBook Air wannabes have invaded the market yelling their ultimate and "unique" features that would make the user's live a perpetual orgasm, but nothing compares to the newest
(and by far, the most handsome) ultra-mobile PC from Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS).

The 11-inch G10IL ultra-mobile PC has been showcased during today's Mobile World Congress. The GSM Association (GSMA), representing the global mobile industry, announced that Dell and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) as the winners of its Mobile Broadband Notebook competition with their HSPA-enabled models.

The 11-incher from ECS comes with built-in tri-band HSDPA and HSUPA, also called the "Super-3G" technology. The new broadband video technology allows downloads speeds of up to 7.2Mb/s for the HSDPA and 2Mb/s for the HSUPA. Neat, simple and extremely efficient, the notebook quickly became the main attraction and helped the GSMA decide it's the best pre-production mobile broadband notebook.

As you can see in the picture, the notebook reminds me of the MacBook, while its reduced form-factor would likely send it into the Eee family. The computer is not available for sale as of the moment of writing, so the scenario might include a pit-stop until Intel releases the next Centrino revamp that is slated to kick in later in May.

"We've been encouraged by the quality of innovation and we look forward to seeing a swathe of new Mobile Broadband notebook devices aimed at mass-market consumers in the future. The GSMA will continue to encourage and nurture new developments that support the growth of this exciting new market segment," added Rob Conway.

The ECS G10IL comes with three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet networking and a 56 Kbps analog modem, but lacks an optical drive. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are expected to arrive in the final version when it is ready for launch.

I hope HP bought ECS and this is HP's 2133 umpc and that it doesn't use ECS components because ecs' components are terrible quality.
