It's good news for green energy enthusiasts. Long story short, it appears that offshore wind power generation is in its 7th consecutive year of record growth.

Thus, the UK now has an offshore wind capacity of 3,461 MW. Denmark, on the other hand, presently has an offshore wind capacity of 1,274 MW. Belgium, China and Germany follow shortly after.

By comparison, the US only has .2 MW of installed capacity, Inhabitat says.

This is despite the fact that, as showed in a report by the US Department of Energy, the country's Eastern Seaboard has an energy generating potential of 530,000 MW, which, if properly exploited, would meet 40% of its power demands.

All in all, 1,080 MW of the current offshore wind power generation was installed in the first six months of 2013, the same source details. This means that, for the time being, the growth rate for offshore wind capacity is one of 40% per year.

Here's hoping things will stay the same in the years to come.
