The official website of the City of Harford (Hartford.gov), Connecticut’s capital city, and the one of Jefferson County (jeffersoncountywi.gov), Wisconsin, have been hacked and defaced.

On Thursday, a hacker that goes by the name of “Nob0dy” defaced the main page of the Jefferson County website. In the case of Harford, not only the main site was defaced, but also three of its subdomains, HackRead reports.

The affected Harford subdomains are healthy.hartford.gov, parking.hartford.gov and dfcyr.hartford.gov.

It’s uncertain why the sites have been attacked since the hacker hasn’t mentioned anything on the defacement pages. On the other hand, it’s not uncommon for hackers to deface government sites in an attempt to boost their reputation.

Unfortunately, such incidents demonstrate that government websites, including ones from countries that claim to put a lot of effort into cybersecurity, are still a long way from being secure.

Currently, all the websites have been taken down.
