Says magazine

We've been talking about how Eidos Montreal seems to be working on a new videogame in the Thief series for some time. Initially, it teased it by saying that it was working on a well-known franchise beginning with the letter T.

Then, it offered some online banners that employed a type of font originally used in the previous Thief releases. In between, it talked about some open positions for the new project that also played the Thief angle. And now it seems that Eidos Montreal is ready to officially announce the new project to the public on May 11.

The most recent issue of Edge magazine ran an advertisement that gave away the date for all to see. The ad goes on to list three awards that the previous installment of the series garnered, talking about GameSpy's Hall of Fame, GameSpot's Greatest Games of All Time and 10 Best Heroes in Gaming. We only have to take a short look at those lists to see that the sole common denominator is Garrett, the stealthy and morally fray protagonist of the Thief games.

When Eidos makes the official announcement, we hope that we'll get some clear details related to the game. It will be interesting to see what Eidos chooses to keep from the previous three releases and what it means to innovate on. Probably most gamers would like to see a game that is more like Thief 2 than Thief 3, with stealth and mystery being as big a part as possible in the experience.

Eidos Montreal is already working, since at least late 2007, on a new game in the Deus Ex series, which is equal to Thief when it comes to fan loyalty, but also pressure. It's rather rare for a developer to have two such high profile videogames in the pipe line at the same time.
