OPM will be no more

Looks like January 2007 will mark the end of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, as the Ziff Davis Games Group, the owner of the magazine, has decided to stop publication.

The Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine has been around for almost nine years but looks like it doesn't fit the groups' integrated media network and further more, it doesn't afford them media opportunities.

Scoot McCarthy, President of Ziff Davis Game Group explained that an important role in taking this decision was played by the PS3 and its online capabilities. He said that the PS3 will be a much more efficient way to distribute game demos, videos and trailers.

The Official PlayStation Magazine, abbreviated OPM, is the first magazine ever to include demo disks of PlayStation games. Beginning with the first issue, the magazine has offered each month a disc containing PlayStation demos or videos. What is sad is that OPM will not get to release a PS3 demo, as Ziff Davis Media plans to release any PS3 demo online.

This kind of news is always saddening, especially when members of a good editorial team like the one at OPM lose their jobs. But, I'm sure that they'll find work elsewhere, I saw, not a long time ago, that GamersHell was hiring!
