Samsung Galaxy S devices around the world are already enjoying the latest version of Google's Android operating system, namely 2.2 Froyo, but those models on the US market will still have to wait a little longer before the software solution is made available for them as well.

However, things are different when it comes to the Samsung Epic 4G, the Galaxy S handset available for purchase in the US on Sprint's airwaves.

The official Android 2.2 Froyo operating system for this device was leaked into the wild and is already available for download for all those interested in giving it a try.

According to those who brought the software update to the Internet, those who will download it would actually have the chance to taste Android 2.2.1 Update DK28 on their Epic 4G devices.

The update was made available for all those who plan on “going from stock Android 2.1 (DI18) to the latest firmware,” a post on XDA-Developers Forum reads.

In case there are some users running a different software version on their devices, specific info on what they would have to do to install the new update can be found on the aforementioned forum post.

The new software update can be installed on handsets running under the stock DI18 update. Moreover, devices that were already rooted would no longer offer full access to their users.

With the availability of Android 2.2.1, Sprint's Epic 4G becomes the first Samsung Galaxy S device that tastes the new software solution.

Unfortunately, Samsung did not offer a specific release date for the update for the rest of its devices, and it might take a while before the solution is delivered to US Owners of a Galaxy S.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before the official Android 2.2 starts rolling out to Samsung's flagship models in the US, though the release might have been pushed back to the next year.
