After being heavily rumored in the press, Acer has finally taken the opportunity to introduce its latest Chromebook which marks an industry premiere.

The laptop is the first Chrome OS one device of its category to take advantage of NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor.

While we knew most of the specifications the notebook will be offered with, it is still good to get the official confirmation from behalf of the company.

In an earlier piece, we expressed our hopes that the new Chromebook would arrive with a full HD display and we’re glad to report the real-life product does come with such an option.

The Acer Chromebook 13 obviously arrives with a 13.3-inch screen but customers have the option of choosing either the full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) or the lower 1366 x 768 version.

For improved levels of performance, the Tegra K1 processor works in concert with a 192-core GPU and Acer says adopters of the Chromebook 13 will be able to experience a “first-rate multi-tasking experience when keeping multiple tabs open, playing video and doing more at once.”

As it was previously rumored, the Chromebook is expected to provide users with a long battery life of 13 hours, which is a lot more than Intel Celeron laptops can offer.

Note that the above statement is applicable to the model with lower resolution, while the full HD 1920 x 1080 one is said to last “only” 11.5 hours. Both screens take advantage of Acer ComfyView anti-glare panels.

Moving along, Acer throws in two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, HD webcam with 720p HD audio/video, two built-in speakers and microphone.

Acer has managed to slim down the frame of the Chromebook quite a bit. The notebook is 1.7 cm / 0.66 inches thin and weighs just 1.5 kg / 3.3 lbs, so it can easily be transported.

The Chromebook has been equipped with the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi, a standard that allows speeds up to three times faster than 802.11n. On top of that, there’s a 2x2 MIMO antenna.

Sadly, the press release doesn’t provide us with the information most users considering buying a Chromebook would want to know. For the time being, we don’t know when the machine will be made available on the market or how much it will cost.

In related news, Acer is expected to roll out a new Intel Celeron Chromebook with 11.6-inch TFT display, which should reportedly offer 8 hours of run time.

Update: The lower-res model sells for $279 / €208 with 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM. You’ll need to throw in an extra $20 / €15 if you want the high-rest version with the same specs above.

There is the option of going for a 32GB model with 4GB of RAM model which sells for $379 / €283.
