Microsoft is finalizing the launch of its widely adopted productivity suite, Office for Mac 2011, which officially debuted at the end of October with much fanfare. The suite delivers updated and highly-improved versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and, for the first time, Outlook for Mac.

On November 1, Microsoft Romania officials hosted a press conference to introduce Office for Mac 2011 to the Mac user base.

As expected, the demonstration featured the key additions in Office for Mac 2011, including:

- the all-new Ribbon; - the ability to co-author documents; - PowerPoint enhancements, including the ability to send customers a quick preview of a presentation via a simple link (Microsoft Tag for Publishing); -

new ways to analyze, organize and clarify data in Excel

… and more

One noteworthy Outlook feature is the ability to instantly preview email attachments, much like the iPad Mail application. Users can collapse multiple e-mail threads into one quick view, see all their inboxes in a single view, and manage their workload from virtually anywhere.

PowerPoint users now get Microsoft Tag for Publishing, which enables them to send a preview of a PowerPoint presentation via a public link.

Office for Mac requires a Mac computer with an Intel processor, Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) or later, 1 GB of RAM, 1.8 GB of available hard disk space, HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus), 1280 x 800 or higher resolution screen, DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network), and Safari 5 (recommended).

Microsoft has set the price for Office for Mac 2011 at $149.99 for Home & Student, and 279.99 for Home & Business.
