14 DAY TRIAL // As soon as Apple made available for download the latest platform for its Mac users, namely OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, Microsoft announced that its Office for Mac 2011 productivity suite is compatible with the software.
Apparently, Microsoft and Apple have been working together to ensure that the suite will work great with the new platform, through it appears that there are some aspects that users need to be taking into consideration.
For example, those who want Office on their Mountain Lion-based machines will have to make sure that the AutoUpdate feature in Office for Mac has been enabled.
“The Office for Mac team is happy to announce that Office for Mac 2011 is Mountain Lion ready! We’ve been working with Apple to ensure a fantastic experience for our users,” a post on Microsoft’s website reads.
“Make sure you have Office for Mac’s AutoUpdate enabled – some updates will be needed to make the most of the upgrade to Mountain Lion. Initiate AutoUpdate in any Office for Mac application by going to your toolbar, then selecting ‘Help’ and then ‘Check for Updates’,” the entry continues.
Microsoft also explains that the new OS X Mountain Lion comes with a new feature in tow, Gatekeeper, which has been designed to ensure increased protection by allowing users to download and install only software coming from known developers.
“Please note that due to the Gatekeeper architecture, updates will not run when you download and initiate them on your desktop; instead please use Microsoft AutoUpdate to keep your copies of Office for Mac current,” the company also explains.
Users who own the older Office for Mac 2008 suite version will also be able to enjoy its capabilities on the new Mountain Lion platform.
