One of the features that owners of Windows Phone devices out there might be able to enjoy in the coming months is Office Touch, which has been already released on Windows tablets and PCs, and which should hit Microsoft’s mobile OS too.

Microsoft has officially revealed the Windows Phone 8.1 Update today, announcing that those who have enrolled in the Preview for Developers program will be able to grab it as soon as the next week. The company has also unveiled the enhancements that it will have to offer, but it seems that some features have been left hidden.

Said Office Touch appears to be one of them, as Microsoft hasn’t mentioned it at all in the announcement regarding Windows Phone 8.1 Update. According to a post on windowsitpro, however, the application is coming in a few months.

What the Redmond-based company has said, however, is that some appealing enterprise enhancements will arrive on devices as part of the aforementioned OS upgrade, such as Apps Corner, VPN, and more.

With Office Touch, Windows Phone will manage to leap ahead of Android and iPhone in enterprise features, as the two platforms remain stuck on Office for Mobile (the Apple iPad, however, has already received a redesigned Office application).

The Windows Phone 8.1 Update will arrive with support for larger screens, which, paired with Office Touch, will position the mobile operating system much better in the enterprise space when compared to rivals, said news site claims.

The aforementioned Apps Corner should prove another great option for businesses, as it will even allow companies to set devices to boot up into a specific application, such as a demo or an inventory app.

Office Touch will be released as a Universal App, it seems, which means that it will work on all devices running under Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1, windowsitpro also reveals.

Unfortunately, no specific details on when the mobile application will be available for Windows Phone 8.1 devices out there have been provided as of now, though more on the matter might emerge in the coming months.

Our guess is that Microsoft will reveal more details on Office Touch for Windows Phone 8.1 as soon as the first update for the operating system is nearing its availability.

As mentioned above, only those enrolled in the Preview for Developers preview will receive it next week, while the rest of Windows Phone 8.1 users out there will have to wait for a few months before grabbing it.
