February 3rd, 2009 marks the day when Microsoft will launch Office Communications Server 2007 R2. The Redmond company has closed the pre-launch registration for the Virtual Launch Experience, which is scheduled to debut at 9:30am Pacific Time, and which will be kicked off with a LIVE Keynote hosted by Stephen Elop, president, Microsoft Business Division. Even in October 2008, when Microsoft was demonstrating Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to the public for the first time, the software giant emphasized that the solution was designed to help customers leave behind Internet protocol (IP) PBX technology and transition directly to unified communications and software-powered voice over Internet protocol (VoIP).

“Building on the customer, partner, and industry momentum of Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, the new Office Communications Server 2007 R2 release continues to deliver on the Microsoft promise to streamline communications for users, give IT organizations the flexibility and control they need to better manage their communications infrastructure, and provide an extensible platform to help organizations create communications-enabled business processes,” Microsoft revealed.

Office Communications Server 2007 is even more appealing to customers because of its capacity to integrate with existing legacy PBX and IP PBX infrastructures and to permit in this manner a smooth transition. The promise from the software giant is that Office Communications Server will change the perspective that businesses have over communications.

“Office Communications Server 2007 R2 streamlines the way users manage communications, enabling them to find and communicate with the right person, from whichever applications they use most,” Microsoft added. “Office Communications Server 2007 R2 allows IT administrators to meet [control, security, integration, and managing requirements] effectively by giving them the ability to provide flexible communications solutions to users and by delivering the tools they need to help manage secure, compliant communications. Office Communications Server 2007 R2 delivers an extensible communications platform that works with an organization’s existing messaging and telephony infrastructure and can adapt to changing business needs.”
