With the number of Windows Tablet PCs available on the market bound to increase throughout 2011 and beyond, users will certainly come across scenarios that they didn’t have to deal with on laptops, netbooks or desktop PCs.

Running the Office productivity suite on a Windows 7 slate is just such an example, and if you ever wondered what that would be like, make sure to check out the video embedded at the bottom of this article.

Obviously, using Office 2010 on a Windows 7 slate is an experience quite different than leveraging the productivity suite on more traditional machines.

First off, in their default mode, slates allow customers to take advantage of a Natural User Interface, a new human-computer interaction model that represents the evolution from the keyboard and the mouse.

Specifically, users will get to interact with Office 2010 through touch and pen, but the experience seems streamlined enough, judging by the video below.

The demonstration involves a copy of Office 2010 running on top of the Windows 7 ASUS EP121 Slate.

Now, in all fairness, calling the Windows 7 ASUS EP121 Slate just a Table PC is not exactly fair to the device.

This is a fully-fledged mobile computer featuring a Core i5 processor, 4 GB of system memory, an Intel HD graphics card and a 64GB SSD.

Users running Office 2010 on the Windows 7 ASUS EP121 Slate should expect the productivity suite to behave much in the same manner as it does on their PC, with the added benefits of touch and pen, of course.

“Office 2010 has built-in tools so you can start taking advantage of touch screens, including the new slate and tablet PCs.

“Let me show you in this short video the new Ink Tools tab (in Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word) and how OneNote works on slate or tablet computers with touch,” revealed Microsoft’s Doug Thomas.

This is exactly how I wanted to use OneNote in the first place. It's not very useful on my noisy laptop.

I have been considering the purchase of a tablet, and handwriting recognition is key in my decision. I could not seem to find any clear answer on how the recognition software worked. After viewing your video, many of my questions were answered. Thank you so much for the information!
