Windows operating systems (Windows 7 included) are not the only Microsoft products receiving stability and performance improvements before the RTM and GA deadlines. The Redmond company has made available an update designed to kick up a notch two components of the Beta development milestone of Office 2010, namely Word and Outlook. The refresh is designed to integrate seamlessly into Office 2010 Beta Build 14.0.4536.1000, and not the latest testing version of the productivity suite, the Release Candidate.

“Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Word 2010 Beta 32-Bit Edition and for Microsoft Word 2010 Beta 64-Bit Edition. This update provides the latest fixes for Microsoft Word 2010 Beta 32-Bit Edition and for Microsoft Word 2010 Beta 64-Bit Edition. Additionally, this update contains stability and performance improvements,” Microsoft informed.

At the same time, the refresh offered for Word also takes care of an issue reported by testers with Outlook 2010 messages. According to Microsoft, the problem of artificially oversized messages sent by the Beta build of the Outlook 2010 email client has also been resolved separately.

“This update also fixes a problem in Microsoft Outlook 2010 Beta in which the size of an e-mail message is unexpectedly large. For example, if you send yourself a blank e-mail message, the HTML source of the message contains many entries under /*List Definitions */ even though there are no lists in the message. The list definitions cause the message size to increase unexpectedly,” the company said.

The update for Word 2010 Beta: February 11, 2010, is available via two separate downloads: the office-kb980028-fullfile-x86-glb.exe package and the office-kb980028-fullfile-x64-glb.exe package. Readers can access more information on the Beta via this link. At the end of the past week, an overview of the Release Candidate (RC build 4734.1000 110) of Office 2010 was published here.
