Customers with multiple-language installations of Office 2010 have come across an issue when deploying Service Pack 1, Microsoft confirmed.

According to the Redmond company, the first upgrade to the productivity suite failed to deploy for additional languages of Office 2010 beyond English, even if the resources had been properly installed.

“During the release of Office 2010 Service Pack 1 we found that if you had an Office install with multiple languages only the English version would be updated,” the software giant said.

Once it became aware of the problem, the Redmond company started working on a solution. According to a member of the Office Sustained Engineering team, the fix was rolled out on October 17, 2011.

“An update to Service Pack 1 for Office 2010 now enables the service pack to update all language versions within multiple-language installations of Office 2010. Previously, only the English version was updated,” Microsoft explained.

Customers that upgrade multiple-language installations of Office 2010 to SP1 after October 17 should have all languages installed detected properly and updated to Service Pack 1 without any issues.

However, this is not valid for all Office 2010 SP1 releases, but only when the upgrade is served through Microsoft Update.

Obviously, customers will need to head over to MU in order to leverage the new Office 2010 SP1 update.

“If you have Sp1 installed and go to Microsoft Update you may see Sp1 listed again ready for download. This will happen if you have multiple languages installed of Office 2010,” the software giant said.

“For the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) admins you will see Office 2010 Sp1 offered in the Windows Admin console ready for approval. There are no file/binary updates with this change only a detection on the Microsoft Update service. We now target the other languages installed on the machine. We will be updating KB2510690 with this information.”
