Developers looking to build on top of the latest iteration of the Office productivity suite now have new resources available for download, designed to simplify the task. At the end of the past week, Microsoft released the Office 2010 Developer Training Kit, tailored to the RTM version of Office 2007’s successor. Seasoned devs that are already familiar with extending the Office platform are undoubtedly also able to take advantage of the Office 2010 Developer Training Kit, but the truth is that the download is geared more toward beginners. The promise from Microsoft is that the dev training kit will get developers starting in no time.

“The Office 2010 Developer Training Kit includes a comprehensive set of technical content including hands-on labs, presentations, source code, and instructor-led videos, that are designed to help you learn how to develop for Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010,” the software giant stated.

And since we’re on the subject, I’d like to remind you about a great effort from the Redmond company also designed to open up development on top of Office 2010. Back in mid-February 2010, when the latest version of the productivity was still in development, Microsoft launched Office 2010 Developer Atlas. Designed as a collection of free training resources, the Office 2010 Developer Atlas is a Silverlight-based interactive Cloud application, which continues to provide content on how to extend Office 2010.

In this manner, devs have content available both online and offline. Of course, Office 2010 RTM Developer Training Kit works best in offline scenarios. “After downloading the training kit, run the self-extracting executable to extract all of the training kit files to your local machine. After the content is extracted, the starting page for the training kit will be displayed in your default browser. You can then browse through the individual hands-on labs, demos, and presentations,” the company added.

Office 2010 was released to manufacturing on April 15th, 2010, and made available for download to developers with MSDN subscribers a few days later. Microsoft will offer Office 2010 for purchase come June 2010.
