Office 2010 - Record 24 Million Copies Sold

Microsoft confirmed that the strong momentum of Office 2010 is holding steady. According to statistics offered by the Redmond company, one copy of Office 2010 is being sold every second.

Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president of the Microsoft Office Division product management group underlines that Office 2010 is the fastest selling release of the software giant’s productivity suite to date.

Doing the math is rather simple. One license sold per second means that in excess of 24 million copies of Office 2010 shipped to customers around the world since the general availability milestone on June 15th, 2010.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the response,” Koenigsbauer said. The software giant reveals that Office is the No. 1-selling software product via the retail channel in the US in regards to dollar volume for the eight year standing.

The success of Office 2010 is credited on the evolution catalyzed for the productivity suite, including a refined user experience but also expansion into new territories.

Not only is Office 2010 designed to be friendly with mobile devices, but this iteration of the productivity suite comes with a Cloud component: Office Web Apps.

In fact, according to Microsoft, in excess of 30 million people worldwide already tried Office Web Apps, which the company is marketing as a Cloud companion to Office 2010.

“We set out to deliver the best productivity experience across the PC, the phone, and the browser,” Koenigsbauer explained.

“That’s so fundamental because the days of people just sitting at their desks and working on their PCs are long gone. Office 2010 is bringing the right capabilities at the right time and helping customers improve productivity and cut costs.”

It’s also extremely easy to predict the performance of Office 2010, at least for the immediate future. If copies of the productivity suite continue to sell at the rate of 1 license each second, Office 2010 will break the 30 million sold copies milestone in the first year after launch, namely by June 15th, 2011.
