Apple seems to be determined to shock its fans. A few weeks after the Mac community was catching its breath after the commotion caused by the Intel migration, now, Apple introduces the two-button mouse.
"So what?", some of the those who are not familiar with the Mac concept will ask. To better understand what the Mac fans are going through right now, imagine that for 20 years, you have been
told that the only mouse your computer should work with has to be white and with as many buttons as possible. And out of nowhere, the producer that has been selling you only white mice with lots of buttons is telling you that it's ok if you use a joystick instead of the mouse.
If you are still not convinced about this, look it up on the Internet and you'll find countless pro and cons about the issue.
By introducing the Mighty Mouse, Apple is killing an icon, which has been around for 20 years. In a world with thousands of equipments which only lasted for a short period of time, I don't think that Mac users are willing to give up on their symbol.
Mighty Mouse might be the first step made by Apple towards the masses. The argument "What computer is this if its mouse has just one button?" has stopped many from switching from PC to Mac.
In conclusion, Mac fans should not be upset. It's obvious that their numbers will grow, and more and more users will switch to Mac.
