Android users rejoice, as Oculus VR has just confirmed that it will bring its amazingly popular virtual reality headset, the Oculus Rift, to their favorite platform.

According to VentureBeat, the information was recently made official by Chief Executive Officer Brendan Iribe, during his keynote at the GamesBeat 2013 video game conference.

Unfortunately, iOS users won’t be so lucky, as Oculus Rift will not arrive on their favorite platform as well, the company confirmed.

Apparently, the iOS version of the headset would require more work, so the company decided not to include any plans for it in the official announcement.

“We have some exciting plans on the mobile VR side as the PC VR side. We’re really looking at hitting the consumer market. We’re very excited about what we’re seeing. Skeptical about how good mobile VR could be on such a small platform. It’s pretty incredible what [John Carmack has] been able to do,” said Brendan Iribe.

Iribe also mentioned that his company would try to bring the mobile version of Oculus Rift at the same time as the PC version, or at least as close as possible.

It is also worth mentioning that the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset for Android will be a lighter version and will take advantage of the mobile device’s processor.

The news comes shortly after John Carmack’s vague statement from last week that hinted at a possible Android version of Oculus Rift:

“The way I believe it’s going to play out is you will eventually have a head-mounted display that probably runs Android, as a standalone system, that has a system-on-a-chip that’s basically like what you have in mobile phones,” said Carmack in an interview for Engadget.

On a side note, Oculus VR, the company that managed to get $2.5 million (€1.8 million) in pledges via Kickstarter will bring its virtual reality headset to home theaters as well, but no additional details on release date have been disclosed yet.
