The fate of controversial British hacker Garry McKinnon – who allegedly breached the systems of NASA just because he wanted to find proof of aliens – will be decided on October 16. That’s when the UK Home Office will say if the man will or will not be extradited to the United States, CSO Online reports.

The case has been ongoing for years now, many protests launched by activists and hacktivists taking place in support of McKinnon.

If UK authorities decide to extradite him to the US, he will have to explain once again why he broke into several computer systems belonging to NASA and the military.

Other hackers might also be extradited to the US and the decision of the Home Office might affect them as well. One of them is Ryan Cleary, a former member of the LulzSec collective who, similarly to McKinnon, suffers from the Asperger syndrome.
