The upcoming MMORPG announced by Obsidian and Allods Team back in 2013 is shaping up nicely judging by the latest developer diary video, which offers an in-depth look of the combat system.

The developers at Allods Team explain that they have studied lots of other games as well as the behavior of people while given the chance to play Skyforge, until they have come up with the innovative combat system shown in the video.

While some of the traits that make Skyforge's combat system innovative, fluid, action-oriented may seem to have been taken from the traditional MMO, Allods Team made a lot of tweaking to offer players a unique experience.

Apparently, “the team looked at action and arcade fighting games for inspiration in combat, creating an MMO that uses a more sophisticated combo system.”

As many of those who follow news on new MMORPGs know by now, Skyforge is not exactly a traditional MMORPG, on the opposite.

Instead of letting players choose a class and stick with it until they decided to play with another character, in Skyforge you can switch to another class anytime as long as you're not in combat and assuming you have already unlocked that class.

Achieving “god mode” will allow players to manage their followers

Skyforge will come out with 10 classes, but only 3 will be playable at launch, whilst the rest need to be unlocked. For the time being, only 6 classes have been announced: Archer, Berserker, Cryomancer, Gunner, Paladin, and Slayer.

The leveling is different from traditional MMORPGs in the fact that there are no actual levels. Players gain “prestige” which will allow them to advance based on the total of their stats and progression.

The more prestige you gain, the faster you will be able to access additional content, gear and followers. The goal is to achieve “god mode,” so that players can continue to progress thus allowing them to manage their unlocked followers to increase their main character's power.

Skyforge does not have a release date set, but developers are already running a closed beta, so those interested can head over to the official website and register for it.
