David Recordon becomes a member of the USDS team

Great news for the former Facebook Engineering Director David Recordon, also known as "daveman692,” who had the honor of being appointed to the role of Director of White House Information Technology.

If you have not heard of this role before, don’t stress out too much as the position is rather new. In fact, it seems to have been especially created for the appointee.

Following Obama’s decision to create USDS, which stands for U.S. Digital Service, it comes as no surprise that he is trying to gather some of the best people out there to form the team which is supposed to serve the country.

The aim of this rather newly created team of experts is to develop and improve any kind of technological software necessary for governmental issues, although we cannot know for sure what exactly this refers to, since most of the information regarding the activities of the team is confidential.

Either way, the brightest minds out there are working for the well-being of the country, so there is nothing to worry about, even if not everything is fully disclosed.

What does this team actually do?

Well, no one is displeased with this sudden piece of news given that David Recordon has quite some background, which might very well be the reason behind his promotion to such an important position, but people are not very sure about what the exact aim of this team is.

From what was revealed in the White House press release, the former Facebook employee’s main mission is to “ensure that the technology utilized by the White House is efficient, effective and secure.”

It should be mentioned that David Recordon is not the only Silicon Valley representative at the White House. Obama seems to be on the lookout for all such gifted people in order to make them become a part of the team.

There are, however, people who claim that the US government is somehow copying the British one, and there are indeed some similarities between the American team and the Government Digital Service, whose aim is also to “make public services digital by default, and simpler, clearer and faster to use.”

We cannot really tell how original Obama’s idea was, but there is no denying that it is a good one which has the people’s best interest as its main goal, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters the most.
