Kanye is friendly with the paps at the airport for a change

Kanye West’s feelings towards the paparazzi have changed considerably, since he’s no longer chasing them around and trying to knock the camera out of their hands, or hurling insults at them, or giving them the death stare. But that could only be temporary.

The rapper landed at LAX on Friday and he was uncharacteristically chatty and smiley with the awaiting paparazzi, even telling them not to believe President Barack Obama when he said that he had never called him at his home.

Kanye and Obama, BFFs (or maybe not)

Talk about the President and the rapper / fashion designer / creative genius being good friends started earlier this month, when Kanye gave a lecture at Oxford University and casually mentioned that oh yes, Obama would call him up on his home phone whenever he felt like chatting.

Since this was the President of the United States he was talking about, that comment got plenty of traction in the national and international media and in the blogosphere. After all, it wasn’t every day that you heard about Obama and Kanye’s unlikely bromance.

The only problem with that was that said bromance didn’t even exist. Obama stopped by Jimmy Kimmel last week, where, in between talking about the Ferguson riots and racism, and reading mean tweets, he also talked a bit about Kanye and his bold comment from before (video below).

He struggled a lot trying to come up with a diplomatic answer, so as to avoid calling him a liar on such a huge platform, but he did say that they’d only met and spoken twice, both times on formal occasions.

He did not have his home number, he was sure of it. He had never personally called him at his house to chat about stuff, he made it very clear.

There’s only one liar here and it’s not Kanye

And now we’re back to this strange thing that happened a couple of days ago, namely Kanye being very nice to the paparazzi. Call us skeptics, but it could be that he was like that because he was trying to convey a message to Obama: stop lying, you know you have my phone number, you know we chat a lot.

You can see the video of the airport exchange immediately below. The other one is Obama’s segment on Kimmel and, right under it, Kanye’s tweet that started it all.

Kanye tried to make it sound as if it was the paparazzo who was trying to make a feud happen, saying “Don’t try to pit us against each other, he has my home number.”

So he’s not directly saying that Obama’s a liar, but seriously now: since the guy went on TV saying he didn’t have it, if Kanye’s saying he does, isn’t that what he’s doing?

Kanye West might act differently around the paparazzi now, but one thing isn’t likely to change now or anytime soon (or ever): his ego remains untouched and obviously can’t stand to be told he’s a liar, especially on TV.
