Not too long ago, SandForce came out and released its new generation of SSD controllers, the SF-2000 series that is, for now, restricted to the enterprise front, and OWC has already revealed the upcoming new additions to the Mercury Extreme Pro series.

The SandForce SF-2000 controller chips have several assets, such as the read/write speed of 500 MB/s, the random read/write performance of 60,000 IOPS and, of course, support for SATA 6.0 Gbps.

OCZ already revealed the impending arrival of its Deneva series of solid state drives, all of which are set to enter mass production in early 2011.

The Mercury Extreme Pro drives that Other World Computing is preparing will be aimed, of course, at the enterprise sector.

They will all be designed as PCI Express models, compatible with the PCI Express x8 and PCI Express x16 interfaces.

This add-in-board design allows them to reach capacities of up to 3.2 TB and deliver read and write speeds of up to a solid 4 GB/s.

What's more, the very high bandwidth of the interface allows the sequential read/write performance to go all the way up to 480,000 IOPS.

“Utilizing SandForce processors in our SSDs keeps us steadfast in our 22 year commitment to developing products that offer the highest performance available,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing.

“We’re very excited to be among the first SSD manufacturers that will feature this next generation of processors designed specifically for uncompromised enterprise use,” he added.

“We are pleased Other World Computing, as one of our Trusted SSD Manufacturers, is expanding their product line to add the leading edge enterprise class performance our newest processor family offers,” stated Kent Smith, Senior Director of Product Marketing at SandForce.

“OWC brings a proven and well regarded reputation of leveraging the exceptional performance and reliability of SandForce technology to market,” Smith added.

The newcomers will only be officially launched in 2011 and have not yet been given prices, although they will probably be of several thousand dollars each.
