Other World Computing (OWC) has updated the OWC Mercury Elite Pro backup storage line.

The external storage devices could tentatively be called NAS (network-attached storage) products.

Essentially, they are cases, of sorts, which house one HDD, or more of them in RAID 0 or 1 mode.

OWC's newest announcement is meant to draw attention to the newest additions to the series: a single-bay 4TB unit and a dual-bay, 8 TB unit.

The capacity is enabled by 3.5-inch 4 TB SATA 6.0 Gbps HDDs. Previously, only 3 TB drives could be used.

The OWC Mercury Elite Pro use FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 2.0 and/or eSATA to communicate with a Mac system or PC at up to 300 MB/s.
