Roberto J. Dohnert, the developer of the OS4 Linux operating system, informed us that a new Education edition of his OS4 distribution is now available for download.

As its name suggests, OS4 Education 4.0 is a Linux distribution targeted at schools and other educational facilities who want to build a reliable and open source computing infrastructure.

OS4 Education 4.0 uses the Xfce 4.10 lightweight and fast desktop environment, and includes LibreOffice 4.0, Wine 1.5, Skype, Calibre, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Celestia, Stellarium, Tux Typing, BASIC 256, SmallBASIC, ClamAV, Mono Runtime, as well as support for Microsoft Kinect and Nintendo Wii controllers.

"Today we are pleased to announce the availability of OS4 Education 4.0. This 3rd and final family of OS4 products is geared towards the education market K-12."

"With this release we bring the very best of the OS4 and Linux technologies to the Education market," Roberto J. Dohnert said in the official release announcement.

OS4 Education 4.0 is not a free distribution; therefore, the developer released only a demo ISO image for those who want to test it. Educational facilities and schools can purchase OS4 Education 4.0 for $99.99 (76.32 EUR) from PC/OpenSystems LLC.
