Thanks to the generosity of some naughty developer who couldn’t keep to himself, the OS X Yosemite official icon set is available for download via DeviantArt. That includes the red iTunes icon that some testers have found hard to come by, as well as all the folder types (applications, downloads, photos, videos, music, etc.). Aesthetically speaking, Yosemite is nothing if not a direct translation of iOS 7 to the desktop. As expected, there’s a great deal of debate regarding the design direction. Some consider the color palette childish and washed out – remarks that have been used to describe iOS 7 – while others appreciate the cleaner, simpler Yosemite.
I’m one of the few whose eyes don’t hurt while using Yosemite, and I maintain that iOS 7’s flat design actually conveys better in a desktop environment. Opinions are very divided in this aspect, and you’re all encouraged to quip in with your own take in the comments.
