We're probably not going to get OS X Yosemite at the same time with iOS 8

When everyone thought Apple is going to release OS X Yosemite along with iOS 8, here comes a new beta of the Mac operating system. It is an unexpected Developer Preview 7 and it brings some more cosmetic changes to the OS.

The new beta came two weeks after the previous one and it seems to be closer to the final product, but still not a Gold Master version. Developers have jumped on DP 7 and here are some of their finds. There are some new icons in the System Preferences app and the dark menu and dock mode have a thinner font, according to 9to5mac. Also, the dark mode has spread to Spotlight in the latest beta.

Apple designers have worked a little bit on app icons. For example, the Dashboard one lost two gauges and the symbols are slimmer, while Migration Assistant has the look of the Finder icon. The icon for Keychain Access has different shaped keys and the one for Disk Utility has lost some of the shadow and the sticker on top of the HDD. Interestingly enough, Apple did not replace the HDD icon with an SSD one just yet. There's also a higher resolution for the disk image icon.

In the Apple Menu, the Software update link has been completely removed. You can also see how many updates you have right from within the same menu. iTunes 12 now lets you restore to a firmware you have on your computer by clicking option + restore. That feature was disabled in previous versions of OS X Yosemite.

In other news, Apple is sending invitations for the beta version of iCloud for Windows. In order to join the AppleSeed Program, you need to have a PC running on Windows 7 or later. Users can beta test the iCloud Drive features and connect their PCs with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and even other PCs.

iCloud for Windows is Apple's first major app for Windows after iTunes and Safari.

OS X Yosemite will bring a big difference in the look and feel of your mac. The operating system has been redesigned from scratch and it has a handful of new features. The most notable ones are related to Spotlight and the Handoff and Continuity features that let you connect to your iPhone to answer calls, receive text messages and start were you left off in different apps.
