Alongside a number of new betas seeded in the past few hours, developers visiting the Apple Dev Center will also notice a relatively new OS X Server Preview build.

Seeded quietly on January 9, OS X Server 3.1 Preview has failed to get any attention from the media.

Apple says, “This is an OS X Server Preview for testing on OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 systems,” adding that developers should consult the seed note before installation.

According to people who are familiar with the build (13S4070), the company mentions a couple of known issues in the seed note. These are described as follows:

“In Profile Manager, the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons within the payload editor do not add or remove a payload when administering from an iPad.

“Mail Server is not configured to use the Open Directory SSL certificate. The workaround is to select Certificates, choose Custom [...], change Mail (IMAP & POP) and Mail (SMTP) certificate from None to a valid certificate, then click OK.”

Developers of course need to take note of these existing flaws and work around them until Apple addresses the issues with its own software engineers.

The main focus area in OS X Server Preview (Build 13S4070) is Profile Manager, with the company listing the following “noteworthy changes and areas to test,” according to developers who’ve seen the build.

- Enable and clear Activation Lock on supervised devices
 - New restriction to require a pin code on initial pairing of iOS device with Apple TV for improved security for AirPlay streaming - Fonts payload

OS X Server Preview (Build 13S4070) is immediately available for download and testing on computers with the latest Mavericks beta installed (OS X 10.9.2).
