This fall, users who upgrade to the new OS X Mavericks will be able to use Maps right on their Macs, complete with 3D Flyover and point-to-point directions.
The desktop version of Apple Maps offers smooth zooming, easy-to-read text and details, 3D Flyover views, local points of interest (restaurants and hotels) complete with phone numbers, photos, and Yelp reviews, as well as point-to-point directions.
In case you’re going out, you can check real-time traffic conditions and suggested alternate routes. If you’re driving to your destination, you can simply send your map to your iPhone and have the device guide you with voice navigation all the way to the place you need to be.
Also worth noting is that Maps is integrated with Mail, Contacts, and Calendar.
“Now you’ve got the whole world on your desktop. The Maps app lets you use every pixel of your display to explore new destinations, and it takes full advantage of the graphics power of your Mac,” says Apple.
