“Wave” wallpaper in the new OS X 10.9 boasts a whopping 5120x2880 resolution

Apple has already confirmed that its latest Mac OS supports 4K displays, but how about a Retina iMac or Thunderbolt display? Sure, it can handle that too. Even 27-inch models.

How do we know this? Easy: thanks to the 5120x2880 resolution of that cool Wave wallpaper included with OS X Mavericks. The resolution is enough to match a 27-inch Retina screen, whether it’s on a new iMac, or an upcoming Thunderbolt Display.

Don’t get too excited though. Apple has been having a hard time rolling out the latest iMac as it is, so preparing a Retina-enabled version with all the fuss surrounding iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks would be quite a challenge. Not to mention how expensive such a display would be.

But, if you ask me, the Retina iMac is probably going to arrive in the next year or so.
