With the October 22 event now confirmed, Apple is encouraging developers to start submitting apps tailored for OS X Mavericks, the company’s up and coming desktop OS.

In a memo sent out via email, as well as through the official developer portal on Apple.com, the Cupertino giant tells developers, “Make sure your app takes advantage of the great new features in OS X Mavericks when the world’s most advanced desktop operating system becomes available to millions of customers later this fall.”

Although the wording would have you think Mavericks is far off, many people with knowledge of Apple’s modus operandi believe the release will occur next week, soon after the Tuesday event where new iPads will be announced.

In the interim, developers are told to “Download OS X Mavericks GM seed and Xcode 5.0.1 GM seed, now available on the Mac Dev Center. Build your apps with these latest seeds, then test and submit them to the Mac App Store.”
